Analysis of the Shelton Technology Plan Report

Competencies:

Reflective Practice

1. Take a systems view

I have communicated in many ways with the staff and have given presentations about and individual help with CPS "clickers," website development, David Warlick's visit to Jefferson County Schools and Web 2.0 themes to the staff. My work with the staff and communications with them have placed me in a position to understand the complaints and problems that they have. Some members of the staff have been reluctant to bring up problems to the building technologist, because they fear a lack of understanding and have asked me to communicate these problems for them. As a member of the Technology Committee for the building, I am often able to do this for them.

2. Use cycles of reasoning as tools for problem solving (with documentation for accountability and shared reasoning)

The ongoing implementation and analysis of a technology plan in preparation for the creation of a new one requires periodic adjustment to changing conditions. Change is constant in our district and in our building and a plan must adapt to changes beyond our control. I have recognized this in the analysis of the existing plan and will make it a priority as a new plan is created.

3. Promote collaboration, partnerships, and relationships for full inclusion with stakeholders, clients, subject matter experts, team members, etc.

As a member of the Technology Committee, I also bring personal knowledge and knowledge and relationships from other committees and positions. As the Equity Key Communicator it was my job to be trained, be aware, and to educate staff on matters of equity regarding gender, race, sexual preference, etc. I have tried to recognize situations, remain open to comments and complaints, and act to recognize and include everyone. As a member of the Positive Behavior Committee and a long-time faculty member I try to bring all of my experience to the Technology Committee and to personal relationships.

4. Be a lifelong learner and professional

I will remain active as a member of the Technology Committee and involved in the development and implementation of a new technology plan. I remain active in many ways in continuing to stay informed and involved.

Planning and Analysis

7. Participate in the process of preparing a technology plan for your unit or organization. Alternatively, critique your organization’s current technology plan and complete a small-scale plan within your assigned responsibility

I am currently involved in the preliminary steps of creating a new technology plan for Shelton Elementary after reviewing the Jefferson County School District Technology Plan and awaiting the final version of a new district plan. My report is an analysis of the current technology plan for Shelton Elementary School.

Implementation and Change

14. Applying theories of diffusion, adoption, and change to a local problem, develop a change strategy.

The Technology Committee at Shelton Elementary is constantly involved in developing strategies for implementing a change in policy, a change in software or equipment, or a need to educate the staff. We try to choose the best strategy according to the desired outcome and all of the resources and methods that are available to us using the building's staff and equipment and sometimes the resources available from the school district.

15. Participate in an implementation process or change strategy

The analysis and the implementation of the current technology plan by the Technology Committee and the anticipation of a new plan have given me the opportunity to participate in the processes of change that are always happening. We are currently deciding if there will be broad changes in the future.

Management

16. Employing effective strategies (e.g., team leadership, collaboration, accountability)

The Technology Committee is always looking for ways to communicate to the staff including presentations, individual means and teams such as grade level teams. Our third and fourth grade teachers are located in a common area of the building and I have become a technology resource for them. The fourth grade team meets regularly, which gives me a means of communicating and collaborating on technology usage. This is also a forum for us for such things as required district reports or to explore the availability of district resources and other resources.
